Improving procurement capabilities

Background

  • Our client develops and manufacturers high-quality equipment for preparing, presenting and preserving hot and cold food products.
  • Serves food retail and food-to-go customers across the globe with high-end technology & quality products and services.
  • Main products include batch rotisseries, food-to-go merchandisers and counters.
  • The company is headquartered in The Netherlands and has sales offices in the UK and the US.
  • The client and its investors were keen to investigate and capture value opportunities across direct and indirect spend, while structurally enhancing capability.

Business Relationship

  • A new Investment Fund was established by partners of another Private Equity firm.
  • A successful engagement was conducted with the former PE house in 2016 and the professional relationship was continued after the separation.
  • JENTS International was engaged by the new PE firm partner to support in developing sustainable procurement capability for one of their investments.
  • The portfolio company was acquired by the new PE firm at the beginning of 2018 (secondary investment).

Approach

  • While the company had enaged in a procurement initiative in the recent past, no material gains were realised.
  • JENTS International commenced by conducting an accelerated analysis on current spend, approach, capacity and capabilities, identifying compelling opportunities for improvement and challenged traditional thinking (eg. alternative sources of supply).
  • Developed a detailed execution plan, phased in Waves, structured across prioritised spend categories.
  • Engaged in Wave I & II improvement execution while installing enhanced procurement structure, tools & techniques.
  • Trained procurement staff & stakeholders.

Results

  • Identified overall 6-10% improvement potential on Wave I and II spend categories.
  • Realised 9% savings on key categories.
  • Installed structured procurement process.
  • Embedded pragmatic tools & techniques.
  • Trained procurement staff.
