Everything, everywhere, all at once. It is not only a movie, but also the complex diversity of (macro) challenges. Bubbling up, seemingly everywhere. These challenges ask leadership to respond effectively and efficiently to continue value creation efforts. Not only for operations, but also in the board meetings of leadership teams.
In the work that we do, we closely work together with boards of mid-sized and large corporations to address these challenges. So, how have we increased the long-term impact of board teams when it comes to responding swiftly? Recently, some quick-win efforts that we made were: – Establishing structures that proactively help to seek for relevant information beyond what management provides – Increased cadence of formal team wide and individual evaluations – More frequent board meetings to establish shorter interval control to adapt quickly – Agenda includes a discussion among non-executives only to voice their feedback
It is all about a well-established long-term perspective while acting quickly. However, result-driven actions need to be continuously (re-)defined and executed across leadership teams on the short term.
